Seven years ago, my daughter left her two children on my doorstep, promising she’d return in a year. She never did. As the calls slowly stopped, I became everything Emma and Jake needed—parent, teacher, nurse, and biggest supporter.
We built a life together, and they grew up knowing my home as theirs. Then, after seven years of silence, my daughter and her husband suddenly returned, expecting to take the children back as if nothing had happened.
But Emma, now 13, and Jake, 15, refused to leave.
“You abandoned us,” they told their parents. “Grandma is our family.”
Realising they had lost their children’s love long ago, my daughter walked away again.
Today, my grandchildren are thriving, and when people ask who raised them, they proudly say, “Our grandma.” I may have lost a daughter, but I gained the greatest gift of all—a real family built on love.
