My Colleagues Made Me Split Bills Unequally—So I Taught Them a Lesson

Posted on July 26, 2026 By admin

When Sydney started her new job, she wanted to fit in with her team.

Every Friday, her coworkers went out for expensive lunches and split the bill equally.

The problem?

Sydney earned much less and usually ordered a $15 vegetarian meal, while her coworkers ordered $60 steaks and huge platters.

At first, she stayed quiet because she was the new employee.

But after months of paying for food she barely touched, she finally asked:

“Could we do separate bills?”

They laughed.

“It’s easier to split everything.”

So Sydney decided to play by their rules.

The next Friday, she ordered appetizers, expensive meals, and desserts—then took the leftovers home.

After weeks of splitting the bill, her coworkers finally noticed.

“Wait… why are we paying for your extra food?”

Sydney smiled.

“I’m just doing what we’ve always done. We split the bill equally, right?”

Suddenly, separate bills didn’t sound so ridiculous anymore.
