When I returned from a work trip, I found my sister Olivia’s wedding ring at the bottom of our pool.
Inside it was the engraving:
“Forever starts with us.”
I knew something was wrong. Olivia hated swimming, and she had never been in our pool. She told me she hadn’t visited while I was away because my husband Daniel was home.
Confused, I checked our hidden security camera.
At 8:17 p.m., a woman in a red dress entered our backyard. She looked around, took a gold ring from her pocket, and threw it into the pool.
Then she turned around.
It wasn’t Olivia.
It was Erin, a woman from Daniel’s old job.
Moments later, Daniel came outside. He hugged her and handed her something wrapped in a towel.
My heart sank when I saw it.
It was Olivia’s cardigan.
Daniel hadn’t just been cheating.
He had taken my sister’s belongings and used them to make me suspect the person I trusted most.
He wanted me angry at Olivia, because if I lost her trust, I would be alone.
But he underestimated one thing:
My sister and I had survived losing our parents together. No lie could break that bond.
