Santana Legend Dies at 79

Alex Ligertwood, longtime lead singer of Santana, has passed away at the age of 79.

The Scottish singer died peacefully in Los Angeles, with details surrounding his death not immediately released. His wife, Shawn Brogan, shared that he passed in his sleep with his dog Bobo by his side.

Ligertwood was a key voice in Santana for more than a decade, joining the band in 1979 and performing with several lineups until 1994.

Known for his powerful vocals, he helped shape Santana’s sound during one of the band’s most successful eras, performing on songs like “Winning,” “Hold On,” and “All I Ever Wanted.”

Before Santana, Ligertwood worked with artists including Jeff Beck, Brian Auger, Average White Band, and David Sancious.

Fans and musicians remember him as a gifted singer whose voice and passion for music touched generations.
