I stared at the camera screen, unable to believe what I was seeing.
Someone was lying next to Emily.
It was an adult.
My heart dropped when I realized who it was.
My mother-in-law.
She was quietly sleeping beside my daughter, covered by the edge of the blanket.
And suddenly, everything made sense.
Months earlier, we had a huge argument.
I decided Emily was old enough to sleep in her own room.
My mother-in-law accused me of being a bad mother.
She said children shouldn’t sleep alone and that I was putting her in danger.
I stood my ground.
Emily needed her own space.
But now I understood.
Every night, after everyone went to sleep, my mother-in-law had been sneaking into Emily’s room and lying beside her until morning.
She thought she was helping.
She didn’t realize she was making my daughter feel trapped and scared.
The next morning, we had a serious conversation.
I kept the camera.
And I made one thing clear:
No one gets to cross boundaries when it comes to raising my child.
