On a rainy night, I heard a woman say, “Please, leave me alone.”
I looked up and saw a man standing too close to her. She looked calm, but her eyes told a different story.
Without thinking, I walked over.
The man turned and asked why I was interfering.
The only words that came to mind were:
“Because she’s my sister.”
The woman immediately played along.
“I’ve been waiting for you,” she said.
The man’s confidence disappeared. A moment later, he walked away into the rain.
I thought that was the end of it.
Months later, I walked into a job interview for a company that could change my life.
The interview room door opened.
And the woman from that rainy night was sitting there.
We both froze.
