When my granddaughter Emily told me I wasn’t invited to her wedding because it was “for her friends,” my heart broke.
I had helped raise her, cared for her through every struggle, and even paid for the wedding dress she dreamed of wearing. She chose my birthday as her wedding day, making me believe it was a special celebration we shared.
But when I arrived dressed for the occasion, she turned me away and joked that I would “ruin the vibe.”
My other granddaughter Rachel was furious. She took me away, planned a quiet birthday dinner, gave me a beautiful locket, and reminded me what love really looked like.
That night, I gave Rachel the wedding gift I had saved for Emily—my house, the home filled with decades of memories.
The next morning, Emily arrived demanding her gift.
When she learned the house was no longer hers, she exploded.
“You promised me!”
I calmly replied, “You made space for everyone but me on your special day. So I made space for someone who never made me feel unwanted.”
She left angry, but Rachel stayed beside me.
That day, I didn’t lose a granddaughter.
I gained a daughter of the heart.
