A Baby With White Hair Was Turned Into a Cruel Meme — But His Mother Turned the Pain Into a Mission

When Patricia Williams’ son Redd was born in 2012 with striking white hair and blue eyes, everyone at the hospital was fascinated. At first, Patricia thought he simply had unusual features.

But when Redd was two months old, his eyes began moving from side to side. Doctors eventually diagnosed him with Oculocutaneous Albinism Type 1 (OCA1), a rare condition affecting pigmentation and vision.

Years later, Patricia’s second son, Rockwell, was born with the same condition.

Then something heartbreaking happened.

Photos of newborn Rockwell were taken from social media and turned into cruel memes. The family tried asking people to remove them, but quickly realized how impossible it was to stop the images from spreading.

Instead of hiding, Patricia decided to educate people about albinism.

Redd faced bullying at school, but with support from his family and treatment for his vision problems, he gained confidence. Rockwell also grew up surrounded by love.

Today, the brothers are thriving. They may need sunscreen, hats and dark sunglasses, but they can live full, happy lives just like any other children.

What began with cruelty eventually became something powerful: a mother using her children’s story to teach the world that being different is nothing to be ashamed of.
