A week before Christmas, I was making coffee when I overheard my daughter, Amanda, on the phone.
“Just leave all eight grandkids with Mom. She has nothing else to do anyway. We’re going to the hotel and can finally relax.”
I froze.
Amanda continued laughing.
“Martin already booked the hotel at the coast. Mom knows how to handle all eight. She already bought the gifts and paid for dinner. We’ll just come on the 25th, eat, open presents, and leave. Perfect!”
Perfect for them. Not for me.
I quietly put down my mug.
My hands were shaking—not from fear, but from anger.
For years, I had been the mother who cooked, paid, organized everything, and took care of everyone.
But this time, they had made one big mistake.
They assumed I would still be there.
