Seven years ago, supermodel Elle Macpherson was diagnosed with breast cancer after a lumpectomy.
Doctors recommended chemotherapy, radiation, hormone therapy, mastectomy, and reconstruction. Instead of immediately following that plan, Macpherson sought additional opinions and reportedly consulted 32 doctors before choosing a different approach.
She ultimately decided against chemotherapy and pursued what she described as a holistic approach, focusing on both her physical and emotional wellbeing.
Macpherson later revealed that the decision was one of the hardest of her life. Her sons were supportive, while their father, Arki Busson, supported her despite disagreeing with her treatment choice.
She spent eight months in Phoenix, Arizona, working with doctors and specialists while focusing intensely on her recovery.
Today, Macpherson says she is in “utter wellness” and describes herself as being in clinical remission in traditional medical terms.
