Lou Koller, frontman and co-founder of Sick of It All, has died at 59 after a battle with cancer.
The New York hardcore legend was remembered by his bandmates as a beloved friend, iconic frontman and a powerful presence onstage.
Koller was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 2024, which had spread to his stomach. After undergoing chemotherapy and intensive treatment, he announced in May 2025 that he was cancer-free, but the cancer later returned.
Born and raised in Queens, Koller co-founded Sick of It All in 1986 with his younger brother, guitarist Pete Koller. The band went on to become one of the most influential acts in New York hardcore, releasing 12 studio albums and building a worldwide following over four decades.
In a heartbreaking statement, the band said:
“We have lost a beloved friend and an iconic frontman.”
Koller leaves behind a lasting legacy in hardcore music and generations of fans who were inspired by his music, energy and spirit.
