Alex Ligertwood, longtime Santana lead singer, dies at 79
Alex Ligertwood, the Scottish singer best known as a longtime lead vocalist for Santana, has died at 79 in Los Angeles.
Ligertwood fronted Santana across several lineups from 1979 to 1994, during one of the band’s most successful periods. His powerful voice featured on hits including “Winning,” “Hold On,” and “All I Ever Wanted.”
His wife, Shawn Brogan, said Ligertwood died peacefully in his sleep with their dog Bobo by his side. She described him as a man who lived for music and performed his final show just two weeks before his death.
Before Santana, Ligertwood performed with artists including Jeff Beck, Brian Auger, Average White Band and David Sancious.
He leaves behind a legacy defined by his extraordinary voice, soulful performances and decades devoted to music.
