ZZ Top Drummer Frank Beard Dies at 77

Frank Beard, the longtime drummer of legendary rock band ZZ Top, has died at age 77.

The band confirmed that Beard died Tuesday while receiving hospice care at his ranch in Texas, surrounded by family. A cause of death has not been released.

Beard spent 56 years with ZZ Top, helping create the blues-rock sound behind hits including “Sharp Dressed Man,” “Legs,” “Gimme All Your Lovin’,” “La Grange” and “Tush.”

He joined Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill in 1970, becoming part of one of rock music’s longest-lasting lineups.

Billy Gibbons paid tribute to his longtime bandmate, calling him a great friend and an innovative drummer whose signature beat was essential to ZZ Top’s sound.

Rest in peace, Frank Beard. 🖤🎸🥁
