Tim Curry, Legendary Rocky Horror and Pennywise Actor, Dies at 80

Tim Curry, the legendary actor best known for The Rocky Horror Picture Show and his chilling role as Pennywise in It, has died at 80. His manager confirmed his death to CBS News, with TMZ reporting that he died Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

Born in England in 1946, Curry rose to fame as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Show, reprising the role in the iconic 1975 film. He later appeared in Clue, Legend, Home Alone 2, Annie, Muppet Treasure Island and many other films.

In 1990, Curry became a horror icon as Pennywise in Stephen King’s It. He also enjoyed a successful voice-acting career in The Wild Thornberrys, Gargoyles and Peter Pan & the Pirates, earning a Daytime Emmy for Captain Hook.

A celebrated theater performer, Curry received several Tony nominations and starred in Broadway’s Spamalot.

After suffering a major stroke in 2012, Curry faced lasting mobility challenges but continued meeting fans and celebrating his work.
