I Thought My Husband Needed a Nursing Home—Then I Found a Letter in His Nightstand

After nearly two years of caring for my seriously ill husband, David, I finally admitted I couldn’t do it alone anymore.

He needed help getting dressed, eating, showering, and even walking to the bathroom. I was exhausted, barely sleeping, and losing weight.

After he fell one afternoon, I finally told our daughter, “I think Dad needs to be somewhere that can properly take care of him.”

She agreed—but reminded me that I needed someone to take care of me too.

We found a nearby nursing facility. It was clean, caring, and seemed perfect for David.

Still, I couldn’t stop feeling guilty.

Yesterday, I decided to accept the room.

While David slept, I opened his nightstand to find his favorite watch. Instead, I discovered an old envelope with my name on it.

“For Linda, if the day ever comes when she can’t take care of me anymore.”

My hands began to shake.

David had written it long before he became sick.

I opened the letter.

The first sentence brought me to my knees…
