My Dying Son’s Final Wish Was a Football Game—Then the Stadium Revealed His Secret Plan
My 10-year-old son Ethan was battling cancer, and we knew his time might be short. When a wish organization asked what he wanted most, his answer was simple:
“A real football game with Mom and Dad.”
So we took him to the stadium.
For a few hours, Ethan wasn’t a sick child. He was just a happy 10-year-old screaming at the referee, eating a pretzel, and cheering beside his parents.
Then our faces appeared on the giant screen.
“Mom! Look!”
We laughed and waved.
But moments later, the announcer said:
“Ethan, there’s something you don’t know about this trip. Please turn around.”
We turned.
My husband Chris suddenly went pale.
Walking toward us were Ray, a hospital worker Ethan adored, one of his nurses, another young patient named Cody, Cody’s mother—and Leo, a father Chris had once snapped at during a difficult day at the hospital.
Then Ray held up Ethan’s battered tabletop football game.
