Alex Ligertwood, longtime Santana vocalist, dies at 79
Alex Ligertwood, the longtime lead vocalist of Santana, has died at age 79 in Los Angeles. The cause of death has not been released.
Ligertwood joined Santana in 1979 and remained with the band until 1994, performing with five different lineups during a highly successful period.
He was best known for his powerful vocals on songs including “Winning,” “Hold On,” and “All I Ever Wanted.”
His wife, Shawn Brogan, said he passed peacefully in his sleep with their dog, Bobo, by his side. She described him as “all heart and soul” and said music was his greatest passion.
He performed his final show just two weeks before his death.
