Former Football Star Reveals Shocking Stage 4 Cancer Diagnosis at 38

Posted on September 10, 2026 By admin

Former South Carolina Gamecocks quarterback Stephen Garcia, 38, has revealed that he has been diagnosed with Stage 4 colorectal cancer.

Garcia shared the news on social media and urged people not to ignore warning signs or avoid seeing a doctor when something feels wrong.

He said his medical team is confident they can fight the disease and that he has already started chemotherapy with the aggressive FOLFIRINOX treatment.

His wife, Maria, has also launched a GoFundMe to help with medical expenses, which has already raised more than $127,000.

Garcia played for Steve Spurrier from 2008–2011, throwing for 7,597 yards and 47 touchdowns. One of the biggest moments of his career came in 2010, when he helped South Carolina defeat then-No. 1 Alabama.

Now, the former quarterback is facing the biggest fight of his life.

“Get checked and don’t be afraid to visit the doctor when you don’t feel 100%,” Garcia urged.

🙏 Wishing Stephen Garcia strength in his fight.
