I was standing in front of the mirror, smiling at my reflection and gently touching my growing belly. After everything Mark and I had been through, I was finally pregnant, and we were preparing for our wedding.
I had found the perfect white wedding dress. It was simple, elegant, and made me feel like a princess.
Then a boutique employee named Martha approached me.
“Are you sure that’s the right choice?” she asked, looking at my stomach.
Confused, I asked what she meant.
She gave me a cold smile.
“White is for pure brides. You know, the ones who aren’t already pregnant.”
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.
Martha continued insulting me, calling our wedding a “shotgun wedding” and claiming none of the dresses would suit my condition. Then she told me to try not to get pregnant again on my way out.
Tears filled my eyes. I quickly removed the dress and headed for the door, feeling completely humiliated.
But just as I was leaving, a tall man stepped out from behind a curtain.
“What in the world is going on here?”
It was Mr. Taylor, the owner of the boutique.
When he noticed my tears, he gently asked what had happened. I explained everything, including Martha’s cruel comments about my pregnancy.
His expression immediately changed.
“You said that to her? In my store?”
Martha tried to defend herself, but he stopped her.
“My wife was pregnant at our wedding, and she wore the most beautiful white dress I’d ever seen. How dare you judge this young woman for celebrating her love and her child?”
Martha stood speechless.
Mr. Taylor then apologized to me and offered a discount on any dress I wanted.
I returned to the fitting room and chose another gown. This time, when I looked in the mirror, I saw exactly what I had hoped to see: a happy bride-to-be, proud of the little life growing inside her.
On my wedding day, I walked down the aisle in that beautiful white dress. Everyone admired me, but all I could see was Mark waiting at the altar.
When he took my hand, he looked into my eyes and whispered:
“You’re absolutely stunning.”
And in that moment, I knew that one cruel person’s judgment would never take away my happiness.
