At 68, Rosemary decided to adopt three-year-old Lily after learning that five families had previously considered adopting her but backed out. She wanted to give the little girl the loving home she deserved.
Four months later, her attorney revealed a disturbing secret. The five families hadn’t rejected Lily. They had received threats from her biological uncle, Victor, who had been denied custody because of concerns about his behavior and home environment.
Rosemary soon discovered that Victor might be watching her house. When he confronted her outside Lily’s preschool and demanded to see his niece, she immediately contacted the police and strengthened the family’s safety measures.
An investigation revealed that the adoption agency had failed to disclose important reports about Victor’s threats. Rosemary filed a complaint and arranged therapy to help Lily feel safe again.
Months later, Lily looked at Rosemary and whispered, “I love our home.” Those words made Rosemary realize that giving Lily a safe and loving childhood was all that mattered.
