Two weeks ago, Paul and Gail Cline’s lives were forever changed.
The Kentucky couple in their 60s, each lost an arm while holding on to one another during a devastating EF-4 tornado that tore through their home on May 16. Winds over 170 mph left a 55.6-mile trail of destruction and at least 27 dead.
Miraculously, Paul and Gail survived. Despite their injuries, their story captured national attention for its heartbreaking yet powerful display of love and resilience.
After days in critical care, the couple — married 30 years — has now reunited in the hospital. Gail, removed from a ventilator last Thursday, smiled through the pain. Her first words to Paul: “I love you.”
Their road to recovery is far from over. “One step forward, three steps back,” said their son, Jeff. But they remain hopeful — and grateful.
Jeff praised the first responders and hospital staff, calling them “the real heroes in capes.”
Paul will soon begin rehab, while Gail continues treatment. Through it all, their bond remains unbroken — a symbol of strength in the face of unimaginable loss.
