Trump Orders Probe Into Biden’s Mental Fitness and Use of Autopen
Among several new executive orders issued today, Donald Trump announced a controversial investigation targeting Joe Biden. He appointed allies Pam Bondi and David Warrington to examine whether Biden’s aides concealed his mental decline and unconstitutionally exercised presidential powers on his behalf.
The probe will look into claims that Biden’s cognitive state was so diminished that staffers effectively governed in his name—often using an autopen to sign documents without his direct input. The order suggests this may have invalidated numerous executive actions during Biden’s presidency.
The investigation follows the release of Original Sin, a book by Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson, detailing Biden’s alleged decline since 2015. Trump’s order also questions whether videos of Biden’s lapses were falsely discredited and if aides coordinated efforts to mislead the public about his health.
While autopens are not uncommon in government, Trump argues Biden was unaware of key decisions and signatures. If true, the order claims, this would be an unconstitutional abuse of power with far-reaching implications for the legality of Biden-era policies.
Ironically, Trump himself recently disavowed knowledge of an executive order bearing his signature, but maintains Biden’s case is far broader and more serious.
