Navy Sailor Found Dead, Fellow Sailor in Custody
In a tragic turn, 21-year-old Navy sailor Angelina “Angie” Resendiz was found dead weeks after vanishing from her barracks at Naval Station Norfolk on May 29. Her disappearance sparked concern from her mother, Esmeralda Castle, who said, “My daughter doesn’t miss work.”
On June 9, Resendiz’s body was discovered in a wooded area near the base. The next day, NCIS confirmed her identity. Another Navy sailor is now in pretrial confinement in connection with her death, though no charges have been officially announced.
Originally from Texas, Angie joined the Navy in 2023 and served as a culinary specialist aboard the USS James E. Williams. She had big dreams — including cooking for world leaders one day.
Her family, devastated by the loss, is calling for reforms in how the military handles missing persons cases. A GoFundMe set up in her memory has raised over $12,000 and criticizes the Navy’s lack of transparency and urgency. “With all the technology available, there’s no reason for a sailor to go missing,” it reads.
NCIS says it remains committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring justice for Seaman Resendiz.
