What Is Abrosexuality? One Writer’s Journey of Discovery
Attraction isn’t always fixed. For some, it shifts over time — a lesser-known but real experience called abrosexuality.
Emma Flint, a freelance writer from Staffordshire, shared her story in Metro UK (July 2024), describing a 30-year journey of shifting sexual attraction. At 32, she realized she wasn’t indecisive — her identity simply evolved. “One day I felt like a lesbian, then bisexual, then attracted to no one. My sexuality was fluid.”
Flint’s turning point came when she found the term abrosexual online. “Finally, I felt seen,” she wrote.
According to Healthline, abrosexuality is a form of sexual fluidity where attraction changes over time — from being drawn to one gender, to many, or even none. Unlike other labels, it focuses on the shifting nature of attraction, not the gender one is attracted to.
Flint adds: “I love the person, not their gender. My sexuality can fluctuate, but that doesn’t make it less valid. Some people still demand I ‘pick a lane,’ but identity isn’t one-size-fits-all.”
Examples of abrosexuality include day-to-day changes, periods of no attraction, or gradual evolution over years. Everyone’s experience is unique.
Flint hopes that as awareness grows, abrosexuality will be seen as just another valid identity — not a trend, but a truth. Her story highlights how powerful language and representation can be in helping people understand themselves.
