Pregnancy and labor can be terrifying, with every mom hoping for a healthy, crying newborn. But for Chelsea, the joy turned tragic when her baby boy, Karson, was born with severe medical issues and placed on a ventilator.
Lisa Hough, Karson’s grandmother, shared their heartbreaking journey on Facebook. Karson had a brain hemorrhage and was diagnosed with a rare, genetic disorder called Non-ketotic hyperglycinemia (NKH), which would leave him severely neurologically impaired.
Faced with devastating odds, Chelsea made the painful decision to remove Karson from life support. Doctors expected him to pass within 10 minutes.
But then—miraculously—Karson began breathing on his own. His heart rate and oxygen levels stabilized. He was swallowing, showing reflexes, even opening his eyes.
Doctors had no medical explanation. Lisa called it a miracle. Though uncertain of his future, the family embraced every moment they were given.
On March 1, they got the news they never expected—Karson was coming home. Lisa expressed her gratitude, saying, “I will praise Him for as long as I have air in my lungs for giving Karson his.”
Karson’s story touched thousands, with over 30,000 people celebrating his survival and strength.
