Tragedy in Texas Hill Country
Sisters Blair (13) and Brooke Harber (11) were found dead, hands locked together, after flash floods swept through their family getaway in Casa Bonita, Hunt, Texas.
The flood hit around 3:30 a.m. Friday. Their father, RJ Harber, was jolted awake as water burst through the cabin door. Brooke’s final text to her dad and grandparents read: “I love you.”
RJ and his wife, Annie, broke out of their cabin and tried to reach the girls, who were staying in a nearby cabin with their grandparents, Mike and Charlene Harber. Floodwaters blocked their rescue efforts. The couple was later saved, along with neighbors, using a borrowed kayak.
Twelve hours later, rescuers found the girls 15 miles downstream. Their grandparents remain missing.
Blair and Brooke attended St. Rita’s Catholic School in Dallas, where their mother works. Known for their kindness, faith, and joy, the sisters had taken their rosaries on the trip. The Harbers now cling to faith and cherished memories as Texas grapples with historic flooding and rising casualties.
