Billy Joel Gives Health Update After Brain Disorder Diagnosis
Two months after revealing he has normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), Billy Joel says he’s “feeling good” but still struggling with balance issues. “My balance sucks. It’s like being on a boat,” the 76-year-old told Bill Maher on the Club Random podcast.
He noted the condition sounds worse than it feels: “They keep calling it a brain disorder, but I feel fine.” Joel also joked he once thought the balance issues were due to his heavy drinking.
Though he canceled several concerts in May after doctors advised rest and physical therapy, Joel clarified his condition is “still being worked on” and not yet resolved. NPH causes fluid buildup in the brain, affecting hearing, vision, and movement.
His wife Alexis shared they’re grateful for the swift diagnosis and hopeful for recovery. Joel canceled 17 shows across North America and Europe, including stops in Edinburgh and Liverpool.
A two-part HBO documentary, Billy Joel: And So It Goes, premiered in July, offering a behind-the-scenes look at his life and career.
Radio host Howard Stern recently reassured fans, saying Joel is “not dying” but managing medical issues
