Deyvion was just a baby when a fire tore through his apartment, leaving him with severe facial burns. Rescued by firefighters, he miraculously survived and began a long recovery at a specialized burns unit—without any family by his side.
At age 5, he found love and stability with Beth Plunkett, a single mom of two, who later adopted him after 2,545 days in foster care. “I feel just as lucky to have him as he is to have me,” Beth said.
On adoption day, the firefighters who saved him reunited with Deyvion, gifting him a custom jacket and a ride in their firetruck to court. Deputy Chief Eric Smith called him “extremely special,” adding, “We don’t always understand why things happen, but we do now.”
Deyvion’s journey is a powerful story of survival, love, and hope—a reminder of the difference compassion can make.
