My Husband Demanded I Pay All Our Bills Because He Was ‘Saving up for Our Future’

It started with an odd dinner request: Jake, my husband, casually told me I should start covering all the bills. He said it was to help him save for a house, car, and future, but I was taken aback. We had always split everything equally. When I questioned it, he brushed it off, saying I was better at managing the household duties.

Days later, I received a call from a woman named Anna, who claimed to be Jake’s girlfriend. She accused me of spending all his money and urged me to let him go. I didn’t know if she was lying, but something felt off, especially after Jake’s strange proposal.

I decided to play along. I agreed to cover the bills, but secretly drained our joint savings, canceled utilities, and found a new apartment for myself. Jake had no idea what was coming. When he found out—on the morning of our eviction and the missing savings—he exploded. I told him the new apartment was for me, and he wasn’t on the lease. I walked out, leaving him to deal with his mess.

Two weeks later, I was enjoying my quiet new apartment, hearing that Jake was struggling to find a place after Anna dumped him. A text from a mutual friend told me Jake blamed me for ruining his life. I couldn’t help but laugh, lifting my glass to my future, now without him.
