Hollywood stars, especially women, often feel pressure to maintain their looks with age. While many turn to cosmetic procedures, some, like Justine Bateman, choose to age naturally.
Bateman, best known for playing Mallory on Family Ties, has spoken out about her decision to avoid plastic surgery despite societal pressure. Now 57, the actress and writer says she embraces her aging face and refuses to be ashamed of it.
“I think I look rad,” she told 60 Minutes Australia. “My face represents who I am.”
Though she faced harsh criticism about her appearance starting in her 40s, Bateman rejected the pressure to alter her looks. “You’re not going to make that fear go away by changing your face,” she said, adding that much of cosmetic surgery is “just people pleasing.”
She explored these themes in her book Face: One Square Foot of Skin and expressed sadness for women obsessed with fixing their faces instead of enjoying life.
