Many people dream of a relaxing cruise, but passengers on Cunard’s Queen Anne got an unexpected shock.
During its 111-night maiden voyage, while sailing near Darwin, Australia, and the Philippines, the captain announced a “heightened level of security alertness” due to the ship entering a region known for piracy.
Guests were told to turn off stateroom lights, close curtains, and stay off the promenade decks at night to reduce visibility. Only essential deck lighting remained on.
A video of the announcement went viral, sparking concern online. Another video showed security personnel and onboard weapons, though Cunard later clarified this was standard procedure, with no direct threat and no disruption to the trip.
