For those still haunted by Jaws, this real-life shark attack is pure nightmare fuel.
In April 2014, 63-year-old Christine Armstrong, a seasoned swimmer and Tathra Surf Club member, was killed by a 13-foot shark off the coast of New South Wales, Australia, during a routine swim.
Christine had told her group she wasn’t feeling well and turned back alone after 200 metres. Moments later, swimmers saw a fin and circling birds — classic signs of a predator. Assuming she’d returned safely, they were devastated to learn she hadn’t.
The next day, only her goggles, swim cap, and some remains were found. Authorities believe she was consumed almost instantly, likely by a great white.
“She wouldn’t have even known it happened,” said her husband Rob, who was swimming nearby.
The Tathra Surf Club paid tribute to her dedication and spirit. A resurfaced YouTube video has since reignited online interest, stirring fresh sympathy and sorrow.
