Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt sparked global media attention when they got together in 2004 while filming Mr. & Mrs. Smith—at the time, Pitt was still married to Jennifer Aniston. Jolie already had two adopted sons, Maddox and Pax, and soon after, the couple adopted Zahara in 2005. Their relationship was confirmed in 2006 when Jolie announced she was pregnant.
To avoid media frenzy, the couple went to Namibia, where their daughter Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt was born via C-section on May 27, 2006. The first photos of Shiloh were sold for millions, with all proceeds donated to UNICEF. Jolie and Pitt later added twins Knox and Vivienne to their family.
Despite their 2019 divorce, the couple co-parent their six children and have kept their lives mostly private. Shiloh, now 18, is reportedly close with her siblings and maintains a good relationship with both parents. Since a young age, she’s chosen to go by “John,” a decision both parents support. Jolie has shared that John prefers boyish clothes and identifies strongly with her brothers.
In 2020, Jolie revealed John underwent hip surgery, praising the strength of her daughters in an op-ed for Time. Over the years, John has occasionally appeared in public wearing some of Jolie’s iconic outfits, including Dior and Gabriela Hearst dresses, attracting media attention for her evolving style.
Brad Pitt is said to be very proud of John and supportive of her staying true to herself.
