Teen Saves Sister from Kidnapper with Slingshot
It was a normal afternoon when 13-year-old Owen Burns heard his 8-year-old sister screaming outside their Michigan home. Initially annoyed, thinking she was just goofing around, he looked out his window—and froze. A stranger was dragging her toward the woods.
Acting fast, Owen grabbed his $3 slingshot and whatever ammo he could find—a marble and a rock. He struck the kidnapper in the head and chest, forcing him to release his sister. The suspect fled, and police later found him hiding nearby. He was a 17-year-old who now faces multiple charges, including attempted kidnapping.
Owen’s quick thinking and sharpshooting saved his sister from what could have been a tragic fate. “Extraordinary,” said Lt. John Grimshaw. Even Owen’s mom was stunned: “It just didn’t sound real—until there was proof.”
