Graham Greene and Hilary Blackmore were just months away from their 35th anniversary when he passed away on September 1, 2025, at age 73.
Best known for Dances With Wolves and The Green Mile, the Oscar-nominated Canadian actor died in a Toronto hospital with his beloved wife by his side.
The couple married on December 20, 1990, after meeting during a 1989 stage production in Toronto. They later exchanged vows near the Dances With Wolves set in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
Though their marriage was filled with love and mutual respect, they did have light-hearted disagreements—especially over decorating their massive Christmas tree.
Hilary, also an actress and costume designer, stepped back from her career to support Greene’s rising stardom. She was the first person he called when he received his Oscar nomination.
Despite offers from Hollywood, the couple chose a quiet life outside Toronto, sharing their log home with rescue cats. Greene spent his time writing, golfing, and enjoying the countryside in his “no girls allowed” studio.
They didn’t always agree—especially on home décor—but theirs was a lasting love that endured for over three decades.
Greene is survived by Hilary, their daughter Lilly Lazare-Greene, and grandson Tarlo.
