8-Year-Old Calls 911 for Math Help—Ends Up Saving His Mom’s Life
When 8-year-old Ryan Crosby couldn’t figure out his math homework, he remembered his mom’s advice: “Call 911 if you ever need help.” So, he did.
At first, the dispatcher thought it was a prank. But when Ryan revealed he was home alone at 10 p.m. and couldn’t reach his mom, the operator grew concerned and traced his address. Officers quickly arrived and found Ryan alone, with no idea where his mother was.
Unable to reach her by phone, police tracked the last known location of her device to an abandoned area on the outskirts of town. With the help of a K9 unit, they discovered Matilda unconscious in her car, having fainted from heat exhaustion earlier that day. Her phone was dead, and she had been stranded for hours.
Thankfully, Ryan’s unexpected 911 call led to her rescue. After recovering at the hospital, Matilda was reunited with her son.
This story is a reminder: teaching kids to call 911 in emergencies can save lives—even when the call begins with a math question.
