Donald Trump Reacts to Tragic Stabbing of Ukrainian Refugee
Former President Donald Trump offered a surprise response when asked about the fatal stabbing of Iryna Zarutska, a 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee, on a Charlotte light rail train.
Iryna, who had fled the war in Ukraine with her family, was riding the CATS Blue Line when she was randomly attacked and fatally stabbed in the neck by Decarlos Brown Jr., who sat behind her. Surveillance footage showed no prior interaction between them. Brown, reportedly with a history of crime and mental illness, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He was denied bond and ordered to undergo a competency evaluation.
After CATS released the video on September 5, the case went viral, drawing widespread outrage. When asked about it on September 7, Trump called the attack “horrible” but admitted he hadn’t heard about it yet. He later addressed the incident on Truth Social, calling Brown a “mentally deranged lunatic” and criticizing the justice system for releasing him on cashless bail despite multiple prior arrests.
Brown’s next court date is scheduled for September 19.
