Prince Harry Returns to UK Amid Queen Elizabeth Anniversary and Speculation of Reunion with King Charles
Prince Harry returned to the U.K. to attend charity events and honor the third anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death. On Monday, Sept. 8, he privately visited her burial site at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor and later attended the WellChild Awards in London, an event he’s long supported.
His visit sparked speculation of a possible reunion with his estranged father, King Charles III, though no meeting has been confirmed. The pair haven’t seen each other since February 2024, after the King’s cancer diagnosis.
King Charles and Queen Camilla marked the Queen’s death and the King’s accession privately at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. On the eve of the anniversary, they attended services at Crathie Kirk with Prime Minister Keir Starmer and wore mourning attire during the Braemar Highland Gathering, honoring the late Duchess of Kent.
Meanwhile, Prince William and Princess Kate paid tribute by visiting the Women’s Institute in Sunningdale, an organization Queen Elizabeth supported for over 80 years. Despite being just seven miles from Harry in Windsor, the brothers did not meet. Their relationship remains strained, and no reconciliation is expected during this visit.
Experts say King Charles is caught between his sons. While he may desire a reunion, Prince William is reportedly still unwilling to engage with Harry, especially after the revelations in Harry’s memoir Spare. Royal insiders believe trust would need to be rebuilt in private before any public reconciliation is possible.
Harry has expressed his wish to reconcile, noting, “There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore,” but doubts remain over his motives and the risk of leaks to the media.
