I married young, had little experience meeting new people, and found it hard to make friends in my forties. So, I rarely left the house until I started chatting with Juan online. He was confident and charming, and soon he invited me to visit. Despite my doubts, I decided to go, hoping for a fresh start.
After a long journey, I arrived in a small town, only to have a difficult time communicating with the taxi driver. Eventually, I reached Juan’s apartment, where I surprised him. He seemed surprised too, even calling me the wrong name, but we quickly connected.
Later, after a pleasant evening together, I fell asleep in a spare room. But when I woke up the next morning, I was outside, disoriented, and with no phone or money. In a panic, I tried to get help, but the language barrier made it impossible.
A kind man named Miguel, working at a nearby restaurant, offered help. He gave me food, clothes, and let me use his phone. As I reflected on what had happened with Juan, I realized he wasn’t who he seemed to be.
I then saw Juan with another woman at the restaurant. Furious, I asked Miguel for help, and we devised a plan. Dressed in a waitress uniform, I distracted Juan long enough to steal his phone. Miguel confirmed my suspicions by checking the messages—Juan had been deceiving many women.
The police soon arrived and arrested Juan. Miguel’s kindness helped me feel hopeful again. His support gave me the strength to move on and face a new future.
