The football community is mourning the loss of former Arsenal youth player Billy Vigar, who has died at age 21 after suffering a severe brain injury during a match.
Vigar, playing for semi-professional side Chichester City, collided with a concrete wall during Saturday’s game. He was placed in an induced coma and underwent surgery, but passed away on Thursday morning.
Chichester City confirmed his death, requesting privacy for his family and paying tribute: “Rest in peace Billy. Forever in our hearts.”
Saturday’s match against Lewes has been postponed. Vigar’s family said they are devastated, adding: “This happened while he was playing the sport he loved.”
