The case of Larry Ely Murillo-Moncada is one of eerie tragedy. The 25-year-old vanished in November 2009 after fleeing his Iowa home barefoot during a blizzard, distressed and hallucinating—possibly due to medication.
Despite searches, he remained missing for nearly a decade. Then, in 2019, his remains were found behind a cooler at the No Frills supermarket where he had worked. He had fallen into an 18-inch gap and become trapped, with the noise of the freezers likely drowning out any calls for help.
His death was ruled accidental. DNA confirmed his identity, and his clothes matched what he wore the night he disappeared. Former employees had previously reported a foul smell near the coolers, but it had been ignored.
