The birth of Cash Jamal Buckman on February 17, 2024, to Tennessee couple Rachel and Paul Buckman drew online attention—not just for the happy news, but because the baby appeared Black, while both parents are white.
Rachel’s employer, Celina 52 Truck Stop, shared the news on Facebook, prompting speculation about the child’s paternity. In response, the truck stop claimed Rachel had African American ancestry that could explain Cash’s appearance and urged kindness.
Despite this, skepticism and jokes flooded social media. Rachel posted DNA results to prove her ancestry, but doubts remained. The situation escalated when the truck stop announced polygraph and DNA testing.
On March 24, they posted a final update: DNA results from The Steve Wilkos Show confirmed Paul is not Cash’s biological father. Rachel claimed the child was conceived in 2021 with an ex and somehow linked the delayed pregnancy to her 2023 COVID infection.
Despite the outcome, Paul chose to stay and raise Cash. Rachel later resigned from her job with $100 severance. The truck stop’s closing line echoed Maury Povich: “Paul, you are NOT the father—but you ARE the dad.”
