Tragic Camping Trip Claims Lives of Boy and Grandfather
What began as a fun family camping trip turned tragic when 12-year-old Kaicy Brown and his grandfather, David Brown, 66, were found dead in their tent on September 14, 2024, in the Welsh wilderness.
Discovered unresponsive by an uncle, both were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities suspect carbon monoxide poisoning, possibly from a cooking stove used inside the tent. Toxicology reports are pending.
The heartbreaking loss has devastated their family and community. Kaicy’s grandmother and guardian, Mandi Brown—a longtime teaching assistant—is receiving support through a GoFundMe launched by his former school headteacher, Phil Sherwood. Another fundraiser is helping Kaicy’s mother, Jessica Brown, with funeral costs and legal fees.
Sherwood remembered Kaicy as a kind, talented boy with a bright future, beloved by classmates and teachers.
This tragedy highlights the hidden dangers of carbon monoxide, especially in enclosed spaces like tents. Families are urged to take precautions to ensure camping trips remain safe and joyful.
