Kamala Harris Hints at 2028 Presidential Run
Former Vice President Kamala Harris signaled she may pursue a 2028 presidential bid — her third attempt for the White House — telling the BBC, “I am not done,” and that she could “possibly” still be president one day.
Harris said her “life of service” drives her, calling it “in my bones.” The comments mark her strongest indication yet of a comeback since losing to President Trump in 2024 after Joe Biden withdrew from the race just 107 days before Election Day.
In recent interviews, Harris said she wasn’t focused on 2028 and ruled out running for California governor, but speculation grew after her memoir 107 Days detailed her brief 2024 campaign, Biden’s “recklessness” in seeking reelection, and her choice of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as running mate.
The book received mixed reviews from fellow Democrats, including Pete Buttigieg and Gov. Josh Shapiro, who warned it could divide the party. Still, Harris dismissed poor polling, saying, “If I listened to polls, I wouldn’t be sitting here.”
During her book tour, she criticized Trump’s return to office, accusing him of weaponizing the Justice Department and silencing critics. “His skin is so thin he couldn’t endure a joke,” she said, referencing actions against political rivals and media figures.
Harris told the BBC she believes her young nieces will see a female president “within their lifetime,” adding when asked if it could be her: “Possibly.”
