Zohran Mamdani’s wife is stealing the spotlight after he won the seat to be NYC’s next mayor.
Her unique style and strong views portrayed through her art have people talking for some very good reasons. Rama Duwaji is a Brooklyn-based visual artist who is originally from Syria and is now living in New York.

Her background and creative work intersect community, identity, and art, and she recently came into broader public view through her marriage to Zohran Mamdani, the newly elected mayor of New York City.
Her Instagram bio indicates origins to places in Damascus, but her rep confirmed that she was born in Texas and has origins in Syria. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts in Communication Design from Virginia Commonwealth University.

She spent part of the pandemic living in the USA before relocating to New York in 2021. Duwaji met Zohran Mamdani on the dating app called Hinge, and the pair first appeared in public in 2022.
They chose to get married in 2025 and since then, Mamdani has always spoken highly of his wife, adding how there is no better person that he’d like to have by his side than her.
