It was supposed to be the happiest day of my life—and it was. But it wasn’t the vows or celebrations that made it unforgettable. It was what Jake’s 8-year-old daughter, Avery, did at the reception that left everyone stunned.
A little backstory: I’ve struggled with hair loss since my teens, hiding it with wigs, hats, and scarves. Over time, I learned to embrace it, especially with Jake’s support, who always told me I was beautiful as I was.
The day arrived, and Avery looked like a princess. But she wore a bright pink hat that seemed out of place. When Jake asked about it, she simply said, “It’s special.” I didn’t think much of it until the reception.
While Jake and I danced, I noticed Avery standing alone, clutching something wrapped in ribbon. She came forward and handed me a bundle. “It’s a present for you, Anna,” she said. I unwrapped it, and to my shock, it was a long ponytail of hair.
Avery explained it was for a “love wig”—a gift from her to me, made with love. Then, she pulled off her pink hat, revealing a cute bob where her long hair once was. She had cut her hair to make a wig for me.
Tears filled my eyes. It was the most beautiful gift I could ever receive. Avery had thought of me so deeply, and everyone in the room, moved by her gesture, stood to applaud.
From that day, Avery and I became even closer. Her selfless act sparked the idea for the “Love Wig Foundation,” where we help people with alopecia feel beautiful. Avery, as the heart of the foundation, continues to inspire others, reminding me every day that love makes everything better.
