James Van Der Beek, best known from Dawson’s Creek, has shared an emotional update on his battle with stage three colorectal cancer, first diagnosed in 2023. What he thought were minor bowel changes turned out to be cancer, news he received immediately after his procedure.
The illness has taken a heavy toll. “I couldn’t be the husband, father, or provider I wanted to be,” he said, adding that acting has been his escape: “Between action and cut, cancer doesn’t exist.”
Van Der Beek revealed that his children have now become caregivers and expressed sadness over missing a Dawson’s Creek reunion. Fans have responded with deep concern and support.
Leaning on faith, he reflected, “I am worthy of God’s love simply because I exist.”
