Erika Kirk explains why she doesn’t feel America has ‘a gun problem’ despite husband Charlie’s assassination

Posted on December 8, 2025 By admin

Charlie Kirk was fatally shot during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University in September, leaving his wife Erika a widow and mother of two. Despite losing her husband to gun violence, she says the US does not have a gun problem.

Erika has since taken over as CEO of Turning Point America, vowing to continue her husband’s work: “We’ll never be silenced.”

While debates surrounding gun control continue in the US, Erika remains a strong supporter of the Second Amendment. Speaking at the New York Times’ Dealbook Conference, she said her husband’s murder was not caused by the gun itself, but by division and a mindset that resorts to violence.

“That’s not a gun problem — that’s a human problem,” she said, adding it is a deeper issue of the soul and mental state. Despite her tragedy, she stands firm in her support for the right to bear arms.
