High school football star, 14, paralyzed in first ever game for team after suffering ‘devastating spinal injury’

A student athlete has been left paralyzed after suffering a horrifying injury in his first game ever.

Ju’Lius Byers was seriously injured in his first high school match for Liberty High School in Missouri. The freshman suffered a serious spinal injury in a game earlier this month, as per reports from WDAF-TV.

The young star was rushed to the hospital, and that is where he underwent two emergency surgeries. The 14-year-old is now partially paralyzed after suffering three fractures to his neck, a concussion, and an incomplete spinal cord injury.

However, he’s able to walk and is expected to be discharged from the hospital before undergoing rehab. Speaking to a radio station, he mentioned how he remembered getting off the block and getting a massive hit. This kind of blacked him out a little bit, he continued, but then he worked up, he shared.

His family has set up a GoFundMe to raise more money for their son. His father posted a message which read: ‘Through it all, Ju’Luis continued to show remarkable strength and courage.

He approaches each day with the same determination he once brought to football on and off the field, fighting to regain as much independence and mobility as possible!”
