Fourteen-year-old Davi Nunes Moreira from Brazil died after taking part in a dangerous internet challenge.
Seeking online attention, he crushed a dead butterfly, mixed it with water, and injected the liquid into his leg. What seemed like a reckless stunt quickly became fatal.
Davi began limping and vomiting and initially told his father he was injured while playing. When his condition worsened and a syringe was found under his pillow, he confessed at the hospital what he had done.
Despite intensive medical care, his health rapidly declined. Doctors suspect an embolism, severe infection, allergic reaction, or possible toxins from the butterfly. After a painful seven-day struggle, Davi died in February at a hospital in Planalto, Brazil.
Authorities are investigating the exact cause of death, highlighting the growing danger of viral challenges that push teens to risk their lives for online fame.
